York Firm and American Cancer Society Announce AgreementAmerican Cancer Society and St. Andrew Development sign Marketing Agreement for kiosk based cancer information computer systemAtlanta, GA ¾The American Cancer Society (Atlanta, GA) and St. Andrew Development, Inc. (York, PA) jointly announced the execution of a marketing agreement on December 10, 1997 in Atlanta, GA calling for both organizations to offer a computer based touch screen cancer information system to hospitals, companies and the public throughout the United States. The 3 year marketing agreement calls for St. Andrew to deliver equipment and software valued at $10.2 million to medical institutions and companies located in the US. The interactive cancer information system was originally developed by St. Andrew through the collaborative sponsorship of the York Health System (York, PA), the Commonwealth Division and York Unit of the American Cancer Society for the purpose of delivering information on cancer prevention and detection to the public. Francis X. McKee, President of St. Andrew credits the systems success in Pennsylvania as the prime motivation behind the American Cancer Societys roll out and support at a national level. "The interactive cancer information system has served the York, central Pennsylvania and Philadelphia communities without interruption for over three years. Throughout this time, tens of thousands of system users were served. "The rollout of the system nation-wide will improve the chances of early detection and prevention of cancer among people in many communities throughout the United States. "If this system has influenced even one person (through the breast, colon or rectal cancer modules in the system) to take action that led to the elongation of their life, I can think of no greater achievement." McKee said. The cancer information system is currently in use at Penn State Geisenger Cancer Center in Hershey, PA, York Health System, Lehigh Valley Hospital and Health Network, The Wellness Community of Philadelphia, Hershey Foods Corporation, The Hershey Municipal Library and physician offices. Harry Johns, General Manager of Health Content Products for the American Cancer Society - National Office, said that the continued deployment of kiosk based cancer systems through the agreement with St. Andrew advances the cause of cancer eradication. "The American Cancer Society is committed to using every available means to reach into communities and spread the message of early detection and prevention of cancer. This system helps achieve that objective." St. Andrew Development Partnership, Inc. is a new process technology company that designs and builds information delivery systems. The American Cancer Society is the nationwide, community-based health organization dedicated to eliminating cancer as a major health problem by preventing cancer, saving lives from cancer, and diminishing suffering from cancer through research, education and service.
